The Dubai Boutique Edit

The insider’s guide to under the radar fashion

Showcasing an array of quirky, up-and-coming brands, and contemporary lines, more and more independent boutiques are opening their doors in Dubai. Here are some to add to your shopping list.

A new addition to Dubai’s shopping scene, and the Parisian concept-store’s largest outpost, LE66 has opened at City Walk, offering affordable luxury brands, from local treasures such as AKS to internationally renowned brands such as Rupert Sanderson, Theory, Alexander Wang, and lesser-known names making it the place for the couture curious. Know, too, that LE66 has both a women’s wear and a men’s wear space, a café, gifts and gadgets.

Located in Dubai’s hip Boxpark, Urbanist is an uber-trendy store that holds a myriad of cool brands ranging from Comme des Garcons, Anya Hindmarch and Sophie Hulme to local designers. With a distinctly unique edit by its Syrian owner, this is a jewel in Boxpark’s crown.

Urbanist, Boxpark, Al Wasl Road (+971 4 334 1343)

West LA

One of Dubai’s quirkier fashion edits lies in West LA boutique in Sunset Mall, showcasing cult brands like For Love & Lemons, Alice McCall and Finders Keepers, at surprisingly affordable prices. A more hipster, as opposed to luxury, curation of fashion makes this store one of Dubai’s most unique.

Dubai’s homegrown multibrand boutique has spread all over the city thanks to the chutzpah of founder Zayan Ghandour, whose own fashion line Zayan the Label can be found in the boutique. The edit is quirky and often bright, with eclectic accessories and jewellery that sums up Dubai style perfectly.

Achingly hip and in one of Dubai’s trendiest art areas, Alserkal Avenue, Cartel is a voluminous space full of contemporary design from as far afield as Croatia and Amsterdam, Denmark and Australia – all playing with shape, texture, colour and fabric. Dion Lee, MM6 Maison Margiela, Chalayan and Nicola Formichetti’s Nicopanda are among the cooler than cool brands on display in dedicated sections within this large space. Fans of Dover Street Market in London or 10 Corso in Milan will understand the attraction.

IF Boutique

Founded in 2006 by Maya Shehadeh, with the aim of offering unique creations boasting rich fabrics and impressive craftsmanship, IF Boutique is responsible for introducing numerous brands to the Middle East. Yohji Yamamoto, Rick Owens and Deborah Henning are among the 40-odd labels you might find here at any one time – all at home in the imposing modern villa on Umm Al Sheif Road in Umm Suqeim. Shehadeh sees her clothes as being as much art as fashion.

Boutique 1

Boutique 1 has two stores in Dubai – the first in the Mall of the Emirates, and the second in Jumeirah Beach Residences. Taking up 2,000 sqm each, it might seem a stretch to call Boutique 1 a “boutique”, but being incredibly chic and home to a special edit of brands from contemporary to high glamour fit for the red carpet, these stores pull it off! There’s a reason Boutique 1 is in the fashion set’s little black books. Christopher Kane, Delpozo and Erdem, among other popular brands, are displayed on the aesthetically pleasing shop floors. An online boutique also offers same day delivery within the city.
